1955 - Morocco. Riots: Terror Mounts In Revolt Of Arabs Crowds of Arabs rebelling against French rule filling Casablanca streets; buildings & vehicles on fire. Boy carrying bucket of water; looted shops w/ smashed windows - 80 dead. French troops sent in. Rebels lined up against wall. Marshal Law declared. North African Colonialism; Civil Unrest; Foreign Legion; NOTE: With the 1912 Treaty of Fez France established a protectorate over Morocco ending in 1956 w/ the 16Nov55 return of Mohammed V from exile who declared independence 18Nov55 & negotiated w/ France to restore independence in Feb56. Agreement was signed 02Mar56 in Paris.
