HUAC - Biberman Samuel Ornitz questioned aggressively - “Are you a member of the Screenwriter’s Guild” asked repeatedly - refuses to answer - says question violates the constitution. “You have refused to answer”. Herbert Biberman questioned re being a member of Screenwriter’s Guild - replies and is interrupted with violent hammering. “Are you now or have you ever been a member of the Communist party?”. Biberman protests and is dismissed. President of Screenwriter’s Guild Emmet Lavery: “I am not a Communist. I have never been . I never intend to be... There are probably communists in the Screenwriter’s Guild... would be impossible to remove anybody from our guild for political beliefs.
