15:40:10 Night, Barbara writing. Nelson wants to take her to town & bring telegraph operator out instead. They argue. Nelson says its an Army project; walks back but Barbara asks if she can’t stay. He says no.
15:42:45 Guard by tent overpowered by four gunmen who w/ match find dynamite boxes; fill saddle bags w/ sticks & on way to blow up engine decide to ride off when rifle shot fired by guard. Nelson rides after them. POV chases alongside riders at night as gunfire exchanged.
15:45:39 Nelson into town, arrives at bar & looks inside, sees cowboys playing cards, piano player. Nelson pulls pistol, tells guys to open saddle bags, they continue playing cards. As he goes to shoot the guy pulls out the dynamite. Sheriff comes in & arrests them. Nelson offers more money & guys go back to work. Nelson: “Drinks are on me.” Countreau buys drink for Nelson & toasts to his health. They talk: “thanks for the drink”
15:49:20 Payroll boxes carried to railroad. Countreau watches. Men roll boulders onto tracks, leave as train arrives & stops in time. Men fire shots & gun fight w/ Nelson. Smokestack hit along w/ Gus hit in the back trying to board train, who dies. Engine starts up, slowly pushes rocks off tracks; they fire at train & dynamite stick thrown at gunmen. Train back.
15:53:15 Track building w/ derrick across valley as train arrives. Bruce gets Smokestack off, Gus is dead. Track laying, plains, mountains, blacksmithing. Sheriff in office. Man brings food for prisoners, pistol pulled on sheriff, another in & prisoners freed from jail. Back at Southerners HQ w/ Countreau.
15:57:19 Construction, POV arriving train & tracks from in front of engine (GOOD). Passenger car arriving & Barbara greeting father, John & others. Telegram for Nelson from Winifred Scott. Train & guys on cliffs above w/ artillery & firing at train but hitting on both sides as it goes through until one hits in front & entire train of dynamite or ammunition explodes.
16:00:06 Man w/ binoculars; “we got ‘em boys”, men celebrate & move guns out. Joe & Nelson find spot they fired from but no tracks. Return to find almost no men to work on railroad. Repairing destroyed track. Guy (Stanton) on horseback says train due tomorrow. Joe & others to ride to find artillery sites. Train approaching w/ smoke across valley; artillery behind rocks, men watch thru binoculars. Nelson, Joe & others arrive on horseback as they see train arriving.
16:04:23 Men begin firing artillery. Train stops & Army w/ artillery turn to fire back from onboard train. Horsemen arrive & gunfight. Joe hit. Nelson after guy escaping, pulls him off horse; they fight on rocks, roll & fall. Nelson talks to Joe, waves train on thru.
16:08:38 Cal & Smokestack argue about pipe. Nelson kisses Barbara goodbye & boards train as they wave goodbye. The End.
