The Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, a Democrat, the very distinguished & able senior Senator from Nevada, Pat McCarran is presently in Europe studying the problem of Displaced Persons. We have no intention of permitting action on legislation to which Mr. McCarran on his return should direct our thinking & offer his recommendations. When he has been given an opportunity to speak to the subject for which he bears the greatest single responsibility, then & only then, if those of us who resist the present move will action be taken on any conceivable kind & character of Displaced Persons legislation.”
