Berlin street scenes prior to blockade 26Jun49 - bombed Reichstag & other buildings - train past ruins - people sitting at outdoor cafe. German civilian in VO describes blockade & how British, French and American forces enabled Berliners to survive despite it. Scenes of his factory closing due to lack of coal & electricity - queues for food - crowded street w/ top shot man reading Der Spiegel newspaper. VS C-47 cargo planes at European Air Transport Service's station at Tempelhof airfield. Jobs created for unemployed Germans helping w/ airlift - day & night shifts - VO civilian realises British & Americans working same long hours as him. VS truck runs over German’s pipe, American pilot gives him his own - goes away before he can thank him; pilots walk past building w/ sign ‘US Air Force Station Templehof’.
17:34:47 American pilot takes over VO: INT Base Operations building - two pilots have brief rest then out to plane for another mission. AVs from cargo plane - clouds above Berlin Corridor. Scene of supply plane crash - wreckage where it hit residential street - military ambulance - wreckage removed on truck - memorial plaque put up by Germans. Two pilots look up & smile as newer C-54 aircraft fly in from around the world to help w/ airlift. INT pilot briefing session.
