1956 ca - United Nations Security Council: Israel, Palestine & Arab States Debate Security Council President from France speaking (French). 19:32:41 English: “The Egyptian government has taken note of the decision of the Security Council of 22May48 inviting all governments & all authorities w/o prejudice to the rights, names or positions of the parties concerned, to abstain from all hostile military operations in Palestine. In this connection I would like on behalf of his Excellency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Egypt, to state the following: The Egyptian government greets the initiative of the Security Council in proposing a cease fire in Palestine. The Egyptian government has from the very beginning of the United Nations supported its principles & its purposes & are as desirous as any other govt. in the world to see those purposes realized. 19:34:01 The cease-fire will not stop or even restrict the continuous movement into Palestine of Jewish immigrants, the majority of whom are strong men (?) who are highly trained in certain European areas... (?) in the ? & commando raids. They have no other object in entering Palestine except to join the terrorist, Zionist bands who wrought havoc in that country such as the Hagannah, Irgun & the Stern. 19:34:35 The cease-fire, to which the Security Council invites the Arab States in enabling these gangs to receive military equipment from abroad, the fact which would lead to the further spreading of havoc & fomenting such unrest & travel (?). 19:34:59 One deal was contact w/ the Truce Commission...Arab League. This is the reply: Considering that a new r? on the part of the Arabs has been appointed to work w/ the Truce Commission in Jerusalem that Commission had previously requested contact w/ representatives of the Arab States on May 2nd, & the request had been granted... On May 5 this group met the Truce Commission & discussed the question of a truce in Jerusalem. The outcome of this meeting had been that an Arab delegation, headed by the Secretary General of the Arab League, met w/ the former British High Commissioner of Palestine in Jericho on May 8th. 19:36:12 (film edited in camera). 19:36:22 As April 17, the Security Council passed a resolution on a truce in Palestine which was accepted by the representative of Syria on the Security Council & later by all the Arab states. Since that date the Zionist did their best to avoid the implications of that resolution by creating a fait accompli which changed radically the situation to the detriment of the Arab population of Palestine. 19:36:58 In accordance w/ that policy the Zionist attacked the unarmed Arab civilian population by taking advantage of the last days of the Mandate. They dominated the Arab towns which they could take by force whether they were totally or partly Arab in population like Jaffa, Haifa, Tiberius / Tiberias, Safed & Acre. Massacre of unparalleled savagery followed, like the massacre of Deir Yassin, & the massacre of ? Tiberias. Moreover one-quarter of a million of the Arab civilian population left their homes & took refuge in the neighboring Arab states. Edit in film. Continued...
