1945 - Soundies: Faust w/ Black Comedy Act Soundies / Filmcraft Prods. / RCA Prod. William Forest Crouch Dir. Josef Berne 1045-3-79 SOUNDIES ARE PD. MUSIC RIGHTS MUST BE CLEARED! Three Black men, ‘Day, Dawn & Dusk’, perform in wigs & costumes on painted set - one at piano. Man in Devil / Mephistopheles costume & another as princess in drag w/ blonde plaited wig & hand mirror. All singing at once. Devil stabs princess & cackles: “Away with murder & scheming lungs, away with unreality”. Pianist replies “OK Faust, let’s have some fun”. Costumes change to modern tartan & striped suits, Zoot suit style. Sing up-tempo song about up-town, joined by man in drag w/ gingham dress & hat. Very bizarre.
