1952 - USA, Religion & Juvenile Delinquency: As We Forgive Pt. 1 of 2 Titles. 17:01:59 Sign: Lakewood Community Church. Int. Mrs. Mitchell (prude) & Mr. Cameron (policeman out of uniform) talking to pastor at desk about possible problems of opening hall for Saturday evening for teenage youngsters & their mischief. Interrupted by noise & two juvenile delinquents (one Darryl Hickman) knocking over music books. Caught behind organ. 17:03:18 SOF Pastor: “What are you doing here?” Boy gives story of needing place to stay, but carrying stolen trumpet says he’s a musician. But has tag on it; “He just bought it”. Prude: “A likely story, I suppose these are the types of boy’s you want to bring into our church.” Etc. Policeman takes them to car. 17:04:57 CU Graham’s Music Store w/ broken window, uniformed policeman, store owner & Cameron looking at it w/ boys in their car. To police station & boy playing horn annoys desk Sergeant; CU horn player, As they eat sandwiches. Cameron talks to them about homes, hate vs love, religion, then leaves. 17:07:56 Cameron requests custody discussing w/ the Captain. Gives permission. 17:09:29 Boys eating hungrily at table w/ Cameron. in uniform. & his wife & son in home dining room. Suggests they have devotions...”Christian way to begin the day”. Cameron reads. Boys look bored listening; one asks what it means...Cameron explains “for good or bad”, whatever we put into life we get out. etc. 17:12:06 Sign: Shannon Construction Company for A Firm Foundation. 17:12:13 Workmen. Cameron & Pastor w/ two boys, asks foreman to give them a job. CU construction montage of concrete pouring, carpentry, framing, shoveling, etc. Boys mixing & wheeling cement in wheelbarrow. Hot & sweaty. (GOOD) One says these people are pretty good...Eddie objects. Foreman comes up while they are talking, “we’re paying you for working, not gabbing, now give a hustle.” Eddie: We’re going as fast as we can.” Foreman: “Well maybe that’s not fast enough.” Eddie tries to punch the foreman & gets fired. Other stays & works. 17:15:15 Eddie w/ Pastor & Cameron talk about it. “...can’t always fight life w/ your fists.” “We always have someone to turn to...” “...we’ll try to line up another job.” Eddie thanks them & apologizes. They talk about God. Silently pray. 17:17:00 Cameron & Eddie walk past Graham’s Music Store; Cameron goes in to see if Eddie can have the job posted in window but man says no & they argue as Eddie watches thru window.
