People standing on bridge over mine entrance painted w/ sign: Safety First Don’t Take A Chance It May Be Your Last. Miners out of back of van, into elevator. Many others standing around w/ equipment. Some sitting wrapped in blankets, snow on ground behind. Women watch milk can lowered on heavy rope or cable. Other women walking about w/ handkerchiefs over eyes. Note: 72 died in 16Mar40 explosion. Eleanor Roosevelt had toured the mine in 1935.
