The shadow of what he was because of his background..." - waist-down tracking shot follows tattered jeans & scuffed shoes of Bruce walking along sidewalk past freshly-pressed chinos & clean loafers of his peers Bruce never actually shown “since he is a symbol for any or all of the minority groups”. Stuck-up classmates outside school moaning about this "undesirable element” - “I don't know why they let people like him go to our school anyway” / “My dad made it plain I'm not to associate with him” etc. Bruce blamed for starting fight - “Golly, this’ll get him expelled for sure”. School yard fight, boy wipes off bloody lip. 13:02:36 Boy into class, finds sweater missing - another boy blames Bruce. 13:03:35 Class party, student couples dancing; at punch bowl congratulate themselves on throwing a great party & put its success down to Bruce not being present. "He's not like us & he never will be”. Girl rushes in, takes friends outside to tell them “Tom” & “Carol” involved in car accident & rescued from burning car by Bruce Jones who was “burned severely” in the process.
