Mary into house, turns on light & sits down on bed; says she’ll fix her bag in the morning. She can’t sleep & thinks about Health Inspector’s words... “Something wasn’t clean.” Gets out of bed, sterilizes instruments & prepares her bag.
07:50:42 Newspaper boy past on bicycle & throws paper on porch, man in pickup drives up & runs to porch knocking loudly. Mary gets out of bed; arrives w/ him at their home / shack w/ her bag & newspapers. Maybelle kneeling by chair & crying. She tells man hush go get water. Mary prepares; husband cutting wood w/ axe & takes armload into house, building fire in fireplace.
07:53:13 Puts Maybelle into bed; scrubs up quickly. Calls man in to help.
07:54:13 Man by fireplace, sends him to clinic to get incubator. CU new-born baby. He drives off past woman leading cow. Mary makes hot water bottle & puts baby into prepared cardboard box. Then waves flies away. Midwife’s nurse arrives to help.
07:56:05 Man arrives at clinic, helped to get incubator. Husband & White clinic nurse arrive w/ incubator & man goes to cut more wood for hot water for incubator.
