CU her boy friend Fred’s hand rings doorbell, he’s got job offer from Forest Service & wants to get married. She won’t marry him, she thinks the job isn’t that good. Fred describes how he wants to do what he wants & Forest Service, Conservation, etc. is good. She wants: “..clothes, a car, nice things...I want my children to go to college.” Another guy. CUs. They say goodbye. “I’ll send you postcards. 14:18:44 Father comes into kitchen, begins husking corn. Charlotte peeling at sink, they see she’s upset; talks about Fred taking lower paying job & their splitting up as mother mixes cake. 14:20:01 Father: “what do you say we all go to a movie!” Daughter says there is a church meeting tonight. Mother: “What do you really want?” Charlotte: “I can put it in two words: comfort, security.” They talk about love versus security as basis for marriage. Talk about judging each other & motives.
