Bill puts up sign: ‘”There Is No Royal Road To Mathematics” - Euclid’. Supervisor in - dialogue scene - “a little nervous maybe?” 12:02:45 School kids start arriving & supervisor sits at back. Bill looks at watch & clock, starts but girl comes in late, Bill starts lesson looking nervous: “Mathematics is the queen of the sciences...” - gives history of subject - cutaway to clock 9.05 then 9.15. Bill notices two boys whispering: “am I boring you fellows”?; takes note they were scribbling, CU scientific-looking diagram. “It’s a basketball play we’re working out for Friday’s game”. Bill returns to front of class & carries on lecturing - clock now at 9.30. Draws optical illusion on blackboard. 12:06:41 Two girls caught working on costume designs for school play. “Let’s try to keep our minds on mathematics shall we..as I was saying...” Bill droning on about the letter ‘x’ in math. Fighter jets fly past in formation & students run to window - teacher taps desk. CU supervisor’s face. Kids sit down chatting. Bill takes different approach & suddenly a perfect teacher: uses model airplane, asks speed of sound. Two girls who were designing costumes brought to front of class wearing dresses w/ vertical & horizontal stripes to show how numbers can be disguised: “Alice here appears to be tall & thin while Betty appears to be short & plump...actually they are the same height & have same waistline” - class applauds. 12:15:21 Math class doing outdoor project, timing runner.
