Titles. 14:00:24 Teenager Barry lending friend George his tennis racquet to use while he’s away on family camping trip. 14:01:08 Barry’s mother & sister come in & he complains that he was left to wash car & do chores alone before family leaves on trip; sister argues that mother had to do his packing. Barry steps on brother Dick’s racquet & breaks it. 14:01:42 Dick comes in w/ huge gelled quiff of hair - family gang up on Barry, thinks he gives more consideration to his friends than them. CUs. Barry refuses to go on trip - “everybody’s always picking on me...I’d rather stay here with my friends.” 14:02:50 Father unsympathetic “in any case we’re going away to have fun, we don’t want anyone along who doesn’t want to come.” He gives him money for groceries & family leaves. 14:03:33 Barry calls Lorraine: “I’ll be able to come to your party after all”. Barry in bed relaxing - wasting day “..get up when you’re good and ready...” Phone rings but its his sister’s friend, not one of his. He thinks outloud about what his brother & sister are doing. Tries to reach his friends but theiy’re not home. 14:06:15 Barry arrives home from movies w/ George - brags about benefits of doing as he pleases but George comments on empty fridge: “...my mom’s a swell cook.” Barry asks for tennis racquet back & promises to return it to George for his tournament - wonders why George didn’t invite him to play tennis or come to dinner - opens another can of beans; opens empty wallet. Lorraine calls to tell him party is cancelled as she’s sick. 14:10:05 Barry tired after four days working at garage; cutaway to father fishing. Barry lonely & feeling guilty for not going along - hallucinates family members talking to him - realizes his family are “the most dependable friends I have”. 14:12:44 CU transistor radio, Barry cleaning house as family return from trip - pleased to see them. 14:13:?? “You never really appreciate your family till the’/re not around.” Dick w/ new tennis racquet. Sister gets call from boyfriend to say he can’t take her to party. Barry steps in & goes with her. Barry talking to dad about fixing the car. Barry in suit w/ sister leaves for party; Dick says its fun to be with friends, mother agrees - “your friends at school, your friends at work...and your friends at home”.
