At sea w/ frogme & rubber motorboat removing lines. Whale boat present. 09:03:17 Slate: 18Feb66 Diver over side of USS Skill (MOS-471), coastline behind. 3 divers leave in rubber boat; Alvin visible on surface, rubber boat alongside. 09:04:05 USS Fort Snelling past coastal mountains into position to retrieve Alvin. View of Alvin moved into stern well; USS Fort Snelling. Support Activity; US Navy; Naval Ships; International Incident; Searching; Aftermath; 1960s; Radiation Hazard; NOTE: On 17Jan66 a SAC B-52 carrying four B28 thermonuclear (hydrogen) bombs collided in mid-air w/ KC-135 tanker while refueling. 3 bombs were found on shore, high explosives in two had detonated on impact scattering plutonium dust over several hundred acres. After 80 days the fourth bomb was found.
