The evil done by the Japanese warlords can never be repaired or forgotten, but their powers to destroy & kill has been taken from them. Their armies & what is left of their navy are now impotent. It was the spirit of liberty which gave us our armed strength, & which made us invincible in battle. We now know that that spirit of liberty, the freedom of the individual & the personal dignity of man are the strongest & toughest & most enduring forces in all the world. From this day we move forward; we move toward a new era of security at home. With the other United Nations we move toward a new & better world of cooperation, of peace & international goodwill. We salute you of the armed forces of the United States wherever you may be. What a job you have done. We are all waiting for the day when you will be home with us again. Good luck & God bless you.”
