HUAC - Hanns Eisler Part 1 HUAC Hanns Eisler sworn in and testifies before Committee. Makes statement: requests right for his council to cross-examine any witness testifying about him - says committee has prevented him from earning his living - mentions Howard Hughes and Wilkie - specifies spelling of his name and date of birth. Committee interrogates Eisler about brother Gerhard, about his occupation as composer - Eisler says he has been in the Soviet Union in 1931, 1932 and 1935 to make moving pictures, for concerts etc. Says he has never been employed by or received money from the Soviet Union. “Are you now or have you ever been a Communist” - Eisler denies but mentions having made an application for the Communist party when young then dropping out - Committee repeats question re membership of Communist party over and over. Answers questions. Sound poor but audible
