People waving from shipboard. 03:36:51 MCU of ?? at microphone in front of flowered wallpaper. SOF: “I have just returned from visiting the displaced persons camps run by the International Refugee Organization in Germany, Austria & Italy. I have talked to hundreds of displaced persons & their families. You can have no idea with what anxiety & w/ what eagerness they have been following the Congressional consideration of the new Displaced Persons legislation. The action of the Congress in passing the new DP act which will permit us to bring about 140,000 more persons, in addition to those we have already brought to this country. The action of the Congress in passing that act has brought renewed hope to thousands & thousands of victims of Nazi oppression & fugitives from behind the Iron Curtain. We in the IRO are particularly gratified at this action & what it means for the refugees under our care.” 1950; Post-WWII Refugees; Post-WW2 Emigration; Immigration;
