1952 - Japanese War Brides School Ext, on lawn. Mrs Maggie McGuire makes up the eyes of one bride as two others look on. Lt Jenkins walks in, interviews Mrs McGuire. She says that she has worked at the DuBarry and Barbizon Schools and says that the girls are doing very well. In answer to a question, Mrs McGuire says the most difficult thing for the girls to learn is to walk in high heeled shoes. Jenkins interviews Japanese bride, Mrs Kiyoko Underwood. She has been married seven months and is looking forward to visiting New York and Washington, D.C. Mrs Underwood says that she expects to study dentistry in America and will live with her husband in Morgan Hill, a suburb of San Francisco. Lt Jenkins interviews Mrs Hammond, wife of Gen Hammond. Mrs Hammond says that the course was started because American servicemen wished their Japanese wives to learn the American way of life. The course is being sponsored by the Christian Women's Affiliation of Tokyo, Dept of the Army, & other organizations. Mrs. Hammond says that the girls are very receptive & will make splendid American wives. Ext on patio. A Mrs Sears explains to the group the proper way of greeting in America, the importance of smiling, of being polite and cheerful, etc. An Army chaplain talks to the girls about the importance of religion in American life.
