05:32:17 Fielding in lab looking thru filing cards or notes. Bob comes in, notices paper missing. Phone rings, Prescott wants him to front office. Nancy at desk says she’s worried about Tom. Into Prescott’s office but Nancy flips on speaker intercom before leaving. Discuss Tom & told that both he & Tom had been followed last night & Tom’s “tail” was killed. Bob: “Surely you can’t believe that Tom would sell out his country.” “This country is at war...we’ve got to know.”
05:36:40 Lab, Bob returns says “nothing important”; Tom points out missing notes on floor; Bob confronts him: “Where did you go last night?” “Places...that is none of your business.” “It’s my business, we were both shadowed...your man was killed.” “Don’t you see this is bigger than you, or I...it means trouble for Uncle Sam.” “This refugee you met, where did you go?” Tom says he’ll tell.
05:38:27 Night: Bob Morton goes to tavern, bumps into blind man, puts coin in cup. “Bless you, may you soon have $100,000...all cash, perhaps a lot more. A smart young man has many opportunities.” “Ha, ha; you have marvelous vision.” Bob into restaurant; seated, says it was recommended by Mr. Fielding; orders Yankee Pot Roast & a lot of coffee. Looks around, many eyes watching him. Waiter: “May I present Miss Pavlov, she’s a friend of Mr. Fielding.” She joins him. They discuss whether they can trust each other. Bob: “Confidence is sometimes based on stronger motives than mutual trust.” He says he’s ready to listen.
05:41:29 Linda: “...friends of mine are interested in the new lean formula 311, & they are interested in 311 & they are willing to purchase a copy of it.” “At times like these....interest in it might mean the firing squad.” “If you are willing to act quickly & keep your mouth shut you may continue to live, a very wealthy man.” She leaves; he leaves & is watched CUs.

Boss says to send “...coded message to Karl Schmidt, have him board the Dawn Express & fly west immediately.” Boss calls & thanks Fielding for sending his friend. “I didn’t send him to over to you.” Tom puts on hat to leave, Bob arrives. “..I’d like to talk to you.” Argue over who said what.
05:45:20 Nancy home, in & says: “You boys are worried about something...don’t hold out on me, I’ve got eyes & ears...” They sit & talk. Tom: “What can we do against all of them?” Bob: “We’ll run those rats back in the holes they came out of!”
