Smoke & flashes rising from shelling of caves . Pan smoking hillside. Tanks of 1st Platoon, A Company 710th Tank Battalion advance & firing. Marines running behind advancing tank. 3 parked together. GOOD. 13:02:04 Tracers from l. to r. into smoking hillside / cave. High angle / HA three tanks firing r. to l. w/ wrecked Japanese equipment behind. 13:02:36 Slate: Peters 07Oct44 10:30 P-142 5th ? drive up horseshoe in hills at 135-”A” to 141 “P”. 13:02:44 L-2 Grasshoppers liaison / observation plane past tank in foreground. HA of smoking wreckage & tank, moving up w/ Marine alongside running crouched w/ rifle. LS tanks in horseshoe basin / clearing at foot of mountain, firing. Pan to smoking hillside & explosions. Tanking backing up road & marines running after; turning & retreating . 13:04:47 HA marines running up to & past parked tank. Tank advancing w/ marines behind, water of pond behind. Tanks & men into basin valley, running for cover. Grenades thrown into cave; Marienes retreat & LVT advances & flame-thrower fired from it into mouth of cave. GOOD. 13:07:21 Slate: Same; 12:30 P-143. Fight in Horseshoe Valley 3rd, 5th. Good MS HA of Sherman tanks advancing on dusty road. Bright explosions near top of hill. HA tanks moving in valley basin. 13:08:20 Smoke drifting across basin w/ five tanks moving. Marines running & dropping into ditch. Heavy smoke rising from top of hills. 13:09:04 Men setting up artillery, rolling, passing ammunition & firing. Move large artillery by hand.
