WWII - General Marshall On Shifting Military Troops To Pacific MCU multiple takes of General Marshall talking to camera: “War w/ Germany is over. Lawless gangsters ever to plague the peace of the world are dead, captured or in hiding. Before we can think of peace we have another gangster group to crush in the Pacific, whose barbarism has even exceeded that of the Germans. The Japanese have no hope of actually defeating us in this war, but they cherish another hope. To them human lives are cheap, to us they are very dear. Their one aim now is to involve us in a long, bloody conflict. They think we will grow tired of war, call it quits to avoid further casualties, wasting the sacrifice already made....our purpose is to crush Japan, just as quickly as we can, w/ a minimum of casualties & to submerge them w/ bombs & shells and overwhelm them w/ tanks and other armor. The only way to do that is to hit them w/ the full furry of our all power & strength. Therefore we are now going to transfer sufficient men & equipment to the Pacific to help those already engaged in battle with the enemy out there...” 05:12:27 “The entire British fleet, and a major portion of their air forces & army, will now be used against Japan. There has been a large portion of the British fleet fighting in the Pacific under Adm. Nimitz for months. And in Burma several hundred thousand British & Empire troops have been fighting the Japs for three years.” 05:13:36 “It is a military necessity to give men who have seen long service a chance to furlough home. The rotation system of furloughs will continue in the Pacific. Ship spaces have already been alotted for that purpose.” 05:14:40 “...we hope to avoid it. Redeployment has been studied for a year...wars have to be planned in terms of large masses...the individual may be lost sight of in the broad overall picture. That’s one of the reasons wars are so tragic...will also result in putting an end to war itself, mankind’s greatest and oldest enemy.” 05:17:03 (how long will it take us to defeat Japan). “That depends on the amount of power we apply & the vigor and speed w/ which we apply it...it should not take long...and delay, any half-hearted performance...will be paid for by lost lives...” WW2; End of European War; Pacific War; Push-pull track has been re-recorded; can be re-ordered for better quality.
