Each of these countries has something of particular interest to the Federal Security Agency which we need to know more about. In England we are particularly intersested in the system of grants to colleges, educational institutions of higher learning. While I’m in England I want to learn something first hand of the National Health System that they have there. Ireland has a particularly interesting problem for us for they’ve done a great deal in the way of their Social Security System, particularly for the older people & that is rapidly becoming a serious problem with us. Sweden has a health service & certain convelescence hospitals which we are very interested in knowing more about. Switzerland had a great medical service, its set up on somewhat different lines than we are visualizing here & we’re anxious to know more about it because possibly they have had some experience useful to us.” Religious Ritual; November 1949;
