Men in camp work as mechanics, masons, carpenters, cooks, machinists. List of departments within camp. Truck enters camp past policeman. Man working out calorie rations on abacus. 00:36:18 Women collect rations. Meeting of camp community; bulletin board advertising social & cultural events. Young kids in class learning English. Greek Orthodox women at religious service. Kids reading in camp library. Little boys in boxing ring. EXT game of volleyball in yard, shell-scarred barracks in BG. Girl & Boy Scouts. Sign ‘Konservatorium Warner-Kaserne in Munchen’; little girls in ballet class; man playing grand piano in bare room watched by young boys. 00:38:27 DP camp hospital - people treated for tuberculosis, TB, row of beds w/ sick men. Elderly women “wait only for death”. Man w/ amputated leg on crutches in yard. VO re highly trained DPs - skills unwanted by adopted country. Loudspeakers - announcer at microphone - CUs smiling DPs as VO lists many nationalities in camp: “they have been certified medically & politically pure”. DJ changing record to play on loudspeaker - VO says he is an “acceptable” immigrant but won’t desert his sick father. 00:40:39 DPs interviewed & checked by doctor. Fingerprinting, row of file boxes; women into trucks. “..lucky ones sponsored by foreign country for resettlement in US, Canada, Australia, Israel, Latin America”. Others look at bulletin board, walk, wait. “DPs exist in a land where they are resented as living memorials of slave labor and concentration camps...” High pan across camp rooftops to fields beyond.
