WWII - 1945, POWs out of Philippines Interviewed SOF 2 released prisoners of war in chair & on bed, ?? of Albuquerque introduces his buddy, Sgt. Donald Smith of Boulder, Colorado to interviewer & they talk about events on Death March after capture to San Fernando. No food, no water; Japanese bayoneted Filipinos women & children who tried to give them food & water. Moved after three days in box cars to camp. Lost 150 most of who were bayoneted. 22:01:48 CU Smith tells his story, says wasn’t tortured but beaten while working on farm. 22:02:53 MS Private First Class Pat Parker laying on mattress, arm bandaged. CU interviewed, tells of being beaten w/ pick handle. Says weight went from 183 pounds to 75 pounds. Described being held up by thumbs for 72 hrs. Describes. 22:04:21 Two very thin, starved POWs. Released POWs receiving cigarettes; out of trucks, MCU standing smoking cigarettes, laying on ground. 22:04:42 MCU Sgt. Robert Fell, British, captured in Singapore tells of building railway in Thailand & number of deaths. Then taken on Japanese ship headed for Japan, sunk off coast of Luzon w/ only 70 of 1300 survivors. Then taken to POW Camp no. 1. Thanks yanks for liberating. 22:05:50 Sgt. Samuel Goldie, Signal Corps interview in same location in front of camp barbed wire fence tells of liberation by rangers after 3 years of capture.
